All Baby Mouse wanted was to be Queen of the world and trade in her dull life for an exciting one filled with wonderful things! Baby Mouse decided that if she could not be Queen, then she would settle for an invitation to Felicia Furrypaws slumber party. After a little scheming and the use of her book report as a trade, Baby Mouse finally got an invitation to the party. What she did not realize is that the party fell on the same night that her and her best friend were supposed to have a monster movie marathon. Baby Mouse went to the slumber party, but once she got there she realized that all she really wanted to do was hang out with her best friend. When Baby Mouse showed up to her best friends house for the monster movie marathon she realized that her life was perfect, and she already was a Queen! She has good friends, good food to eat, and good books to read. All of these things were included in her list of things that a Queen had.
I think this book is a great way to get students to see the good things that they have in their life. We always want more, but that sometimes keeps us from seeing what is right in front of us. After my students read this book I will have them all make a list of the good things that they have in their life. This list could include family, friends, pets, a house, toys. Anything that they see as something special to them. I would not want to use this as a, "Hey look at what I have!" exercise. I think this should be an activity that shows all of the students that they are all special no matter what.
